These turn out SO nice, I think I'm gonna make a matching blanket! It would be so warm and squishy. Here's how mine turned out:<br />

Two Panels should be constructed. You can mix them up so the pillow has different colors on either side (if you prefer). Attach the two panels together by placing the panels on top of each other. Create a slip knot and slide onto hook. Slip hook through both panels. I have chosen to slip it between the posts to be consistent. Single crochet the two panels together all the way around (2 SC in the same whole in the corners). Fasten off and weave in ends, now your pillow is done! This one turned out SO good I was immensely glad that I made two because I didn't want to give it up when I was finished. SO adorable! My swap partner wanted something w/ bright colors and modern, so this is what I decided on:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/EdenAva.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/EdenAva.jpg" width="375" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I know the shoes don't match, I was just trying to get a quick pic LOL</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/EdenAva2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/EdenAva2.jpg" width="360" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Two pics are always better than one :D</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/EdenAva3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="340" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/EdenAva3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Close up of the fabric, it's adorable!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/AGspringswap.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/AGspringswap.jpg" width="280" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The back, I broke down and used velcro, but it turned out nice.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/AGgirlsspring.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="237" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/AGgirlsspring.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I made the little coats too, because you can't have a pretty Easter dress without a spring jacket!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/AGEdenAva.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="243" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/AGEdenAva.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">One with the flash.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">While the dress was SUPER easy to sew and turned out AMAZING, the coat was a NIGHTMARE and I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner. I used the <a href="http://www.libertyjanepatterns.com/2012/01/1930s-ruffled-play-dress-pattern.html" target="_blank">1930's Ruffled play dress</a> pattern for the dress. Great pattern highly recommend it, you won't be disappointed. I used the <a href="http://www.libertyjanepatterns.com/2010/04/american-girl-doll-clothes-bubble-hem-trench-coat-pattern.html" target="_blank">Bubble Hem Trench Coat</a> pattern for the coat. I hate this pattern and I will probably never sew it again. The bodice of the coat is not lined as it should be, the skirt part is, but only to give it the "bubble" effect. The pattern guide book assumes that you have a serger as it tells you to serge the edge of everything. Well I don't have a serger, so I finish edges and seams the old fashioned way. It leaves the side edges of the skirt lining just bare, they are not attached to anything just hanging there. The fit is rather big, but I guess you could have the doll wear just about anything under it and it would still fit. I fixed all the issues but if you wear a total beginner, it would probably frustrate you to tears. I was highly frustrated, and I'm not a beginner. This pattern is SO not worth the $3.99 I paid for it, it turned out looking nice in the end but it took a lot of extra figuring on my part to get it that way. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I love how the dress turned out, my daughter and my swap partner are also very pleased. Off to make some more of those, great pattern!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Here's my result and I LOVE IT!<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">back</td></tr>
</tbody></table>It was a lot of fun and quick to make, I don't think I would use the variegated yarn again, but for the first attempt it's ok. I think I'll make myself at least one more in a different color, just waiting for the yarn to go on sale. The pattern is pretty good except the assembly instructions, they were a bit vague, took a bit of figuring to get it right. Thank God there were reference pics. Great project!<br />

<br />
Well I entered the costume swap on one of my favorite forums, because I LOVE Halloween and I love to see all the AMAZING creations that everyone comes up with. I was sent my swap partner's questionnaire and read through it. She had three dream costumes that she listed as choices of what type of costume she would like. Cinderella was one of them. I don't have a pattern for Cinderella's dress so I made one. This is actually pictures of the second attempt. The first one just was not good enough in my opinion. This one turned out MUCH nicer. I had a hell of a time w/ those peplums I wanted it to drape just right. It's still not like I wanted it but much closer than the first attempt. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/cinderella3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/cinderella3.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/cinderella7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/cinderella7.jpg" width="307" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The skirt and the bodice are fully lined, this presented a problem w/ the first skirt. I have a bit of gathered tulle as you can see to add a sort of crinoline. With the first skirt the tulle went all the way to the top, and was sewn into the waist band, there was such a bulk of fabric that I broke my sewing machine needle on the first try. I did manage to get it sewn through, w/ some effort. So on this version to help get rid of the bulk, or at least minimize it I just made the crinoline shorter and sewed it to the skirt lining.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/cinderellaskirt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/cinderellaskirt.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is the inside of the skirt looking in from the waist band.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/cinderella4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/cinderella4.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">A closer look at the bodice, too bad it got a little blurry.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/cinderellabodice.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/cinderellabodice.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">the inside of the bodice completely lined. OH! that pointed yolk(is that what it's called?) sure gave me fits. On the first version I couldn't figure out HOW to so it from the inside so it would turn back out and look nice and smooth. On this one I figured it out and it looks SO much nicer.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I made the little blue headband to go w/ it. The satin is actually glittery but you can't tell in the pics. I looked through hoards of Cinderella pics on the web, and hit was a pretty close representation of it. It looks so nice on my #49 it was hard to give it up, but it looks really nice on my swap partner's Kanani doll too. The outfit I received is AMAZING too. I'll post pics of that too in a few days.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

DD said, "she's a rebel, she doesn't care if she matches" So she's sporting a shirt that I made from one of DD's old shirts, and her skirt was actually a MAJOR screw up trying to make a pair of shorts. I sewed the back to leg pieces of the shorts together upside down and then of course sewed on the waist band before I noticed. The plaid was leftover pant legs from a pair of slacks I made into board shorts for my daughter, so I didn't have any left to fix it. I decided to just make it a skirt. It looks horrible, but DD doesn't care and neither did Aiden.<br />

It has not been very sunny this week so I can take pics of both of them in their dress, but I managed to get one of her doll. I will add more pics when the sun comes out again.</span><br />
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: #bfcffe;"><img alt="[image] " border="0" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Ladybrinx%20Designs/cupcakedress2.jpg" title="[image] " /></span><br />
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: cyan;"><span class="Apple-style-span"> I got some pics, and I forgot to put in what else DD said about it LOL... I finished her dress first, and then I whipped up the dolly dress. When I was done I gave it to her, and she said, "Oooh I love it!" Then she thought for a minute and said, "It's too bad though..." and I said, "what's too bad?" she said, "it's too bad that her dress doesn't have as many cupcakes as mine." Kids.</span> </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: #bfcffe;"><img alt="[image] " border="0" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/brookiecupcake2.jpg" title="[image] " /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: #bfcffe;"><img alt="[image] " border="0" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/brookiecupcake.jpg" title="[image] " /></span><br />
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: cyan;"> They are both the Oliver + s popover sundress, I made DD's bigger because the biggest it went up to was 8 and I didn't want her to outgrow it too quickly. It's a little bigger than I wanted, but she'll grow. I added the ruffle at the bottom, it's not in the pattern, nor is the white eyelet lace at the top. When I saw the dark brown sprinkle fabric there was no way I wasn't adding the ruffle. I love it! This pattern is so quick and easy it really lends competition to LJ's drawstring dress, it's much easier and looks better when finishes (at least IMHO).</span><span style="background-color: #bfcffe;"><br />

I signed up for the swap and waited to get my partner. We all fill out a questionnaire..what we like, what we don't like, what we absolutely do not want to receive, what's the dream outfit you'd like...etc. My partner's dream outfit was a mid 1800's dress. I was totally lacking inspiration in that area. I didn't want it to be just the same as the last dress I made for the spring swap. So I procrastinated. Then American Girl released their new historical dolls <a href="http://store.americangirl.com/agshop/static/cecilemariegracedoll.jsp">Cecile and Marie Grace</a>. So I was looking through their new outfits and was inspired by one of them. <a href="http://store.americangirl.com/agshop/html/item/id/167899/uid/871">Marie Grace's skirt set</a>. So here is my version of the set, I hope my swap partner loves it as much as I do. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/bluedress-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/bluedress-1.jpg" width="245" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I did not care for all the bows on the front of the AG one, so I left that off, I thin it does need something but I don't know what that is. Sometimes it's better to leave something rather than put too much.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/bluedress2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/bluedress2.jpg" width="236" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is the back view:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/backdress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/backdress.jpg" width="260" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Close up pics of the front and back</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/topblue.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/topblue.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/topback.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/topback.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is a picture of one of the sleeves in progress, it was a lot of work, but I love how it looks</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/pins.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="255" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/pins.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I know some people like to see the inside of the project so here's some pics of the inside of the top (forgive my mess, my sewing table is also the dining table so it's a challenge to sew a project while trying to live life at the same time):</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/inside.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="205" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/inside.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/inside3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="233" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/inside3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/inside2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/inside2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I also made a Chemise and pantaloons to go w/ it, sorry about the ugly fold in it, this is before I washed and pressed it for the last time.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/chemise.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/chemise.jpg" width="201" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/pantellettes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="396" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/pantellettes.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I LOVE this dress, wish I could keep it, but it's the day of shipping and it has to go out. I will have to make another one for my daughter to put on her dolls so I can admire it. It turned out better than I expected because I had to draft some of my own pattern pieces to make it look like Marie Grace's outfit. Again I modified parts of 4 different patterns to get what I wanted. If I do make another there are still some changes I would make so it won't be exactly the same but it was a good learning experience. I enjoyed making it, just wish I would have decided on what I was doing a lot sooner so I could have given myself more time to be ready. I made it all in one day, from drafting pattern pieces to assembly to washing and ironing, today it's going out in the mail to my swap partner. I hope she loves it as much as I do.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Well stuff happens right? Anyway, we were invited to a birthday party for a friend of our's daughter and guess what? She's 3! One of the prettiest little princesses I've ever seen and perfect for the dress. So I sewed it together finally.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/dress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="392" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/dress.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It has the most adorable little pockets.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/dress2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/dress2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is only the 3rd zipper I've ever put in. I don't like doing it really, but at least it looks ok.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/dress4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/dress4.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My daughter insisted that we put a tag in the back. So I let her write "back" on it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/dress5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Sewing%20and%20crafts/dress5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It sewed up pretty good, there were some confusing parts, but I got past them. Overall it's really cute, and I hope to see her wearing it sometime just to see how well it fits. I had no measurements to go on.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I wish the pictures and lighting were better, but it was down to the wire and I had to wrap it to give so this is the best I could get.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

It actually took me more time to iron the bias for the ties than to make the whole dress. I LOVE this pattern, I think I'll make a few more when I get some more fabric. This pattern is SO easy I think just about anyone could sew it. I like it better than the LJ drawstring dress. Anyway, I got the link to the pattern from <a href="http://www.dynamitethreads.com/">Dynamite Threads blog</a> and the pattern is called the <a href="http://www.oliverands.com/blog/2010/08/popover-doll-dress-free-downloadable-pattern.html">Popover doll dress free pattern</a> there is a girl version too. I'd like to make that for my DD, but I need to get some more fabric first. It fits Mattel Samantha nicely but it was a little tight pulling it up over her bum.<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial; font-size: 12px;"><br />
</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial; font-size: 12px;">I just used fabric I had on hand from the Heritage 30's dress I made a few months ago. Some white on white print, and a spot of lace from the swap dress I did recently. I was losing good light fast because I got it done right at dusk, so I might try to get better pics tomorrow. I was thinking it didn't look very summery, more like Christmas, but after I was finished, I think I like the colors. I wanted red white and blue, but I didn't have any suitable blue fabric. Of course Samantha's poor hair looks a hot mess! I just quick grabbed her up, changed her clothes and ran outside to get pics...sheesh poor thing. Next time I'll try to make sure her hair is combed at least.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Verdana, Arial; font-size: 12px;"><br />

This is a SUPER simple project, cute and easy. I thought this would be a good first try for my daughter to sew herself. It's all pretty easy except for the binding around the sleeve holes and the ironing of said binding. Neither of those things she could do by herself as she's only 7. The other problem we had was that she had decided on this pretty blue *sheer* fabric that I had in my stash, which then obviously would need to be lined. SO the dress turned quite a bit shorter because of the extra bit of folding over we had to do on the hem and neck line. I just used plain white ribbon for the drawstrings...I'm not that fond of ironing. I think she enjoyed it, but got bored w/ it after a while and went and watched TV. It's cute but not my favorite pattern.MommyOntheEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04724609195596015786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2273513749920785766.post-13013767844894445282011-05-25T17:23:00.000-07:002011-05-25T17:23:20.749-07:00Now for the Doll Spa partI decided to try my hand at American Girl doll restoration.. I found this lovely Samantha on ebay for real cheap and her poor arm had parted ways from her body. So I bought her and fixed her up...<br />
She was in really beautiful condition when she arrived, she had no spots or stains, just her arm was off and her other arm and right leg were about to go too. The left leg was good elastic-wise but really floppy, so I just totally restrung her. <br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/ebay/Samb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/ebay/Samb.jpg" width="254" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Right out of the box.</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"> </td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"> </td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/ebay/Samb3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/ebay/Samb3.jpg" width="208" /></a></div>Hair is kinda straight and her arm was unattached and she smelled like crayons.<br />
<br />
So I removed her head and washed her body and limbs. Then I downy dunked her and set her hair in rollers:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Clipart/PMsam2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Clipart/PMsam2.jpg" width="309" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Clipart/PMsam.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="316" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Clipart/PMsam.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Then I restrung her today and now she's all beautiful, smells nice and is able to hold a pose again :D<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Clipart/PMsam5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Clipart/PMsam5.jpg" width="238" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Clipart/PMsam4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/Ladybrinx/Clipart/PMsam4.jpg" width="183" /></a></div> I ended up selling her after much deliberation, she is currently being loved by a Mom and a daughter in New York. It was a great experience, and I know I will try it again sometime. Samantha is my favorite so it's really hard not to save them all.MommyOntheEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04724609195596015786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2273513749920785766.post-46051063300712434902011-05-21T18:14:00.000-07:002011-05-21T18:14:59.040-07:00Matching girl and doll PJ's<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />

I made that happen, but I saw this Princess Tiana fabric at JoAnn's and I could NOT resist making her something w/ it. It's so pretty. SO I made her PJ's for her and her doll. I did not make my daughter's top, I bought it on clearance at Target and couldn't believe how perfectly it matched the Princess fabric. I also bought an extra clearance shirt and cut it up to make a matching dolly top, I even reused the binding from the original shirt, great deal, I think the whole shirt cost me $1.38 and it's really nice high quality knit. The pants were a bit of a pain, I used the <a href="http://libertyjanepatterns.com/2010/01/2010-liberty-jane-jeans-pattern-for-your-american-girl-dolls.html">Liberty Jane Jeans pattern</a> to make them and the first attempt was SO tight I couldn't even get them on. So I could imagine the frustration my daughter would have. So I scrapped that pair and modified the pattern to make another pair that would fit better. Second pair worked out much better. Really cute set and my daughter was highly pleased.MommyOntheEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04724609195596015786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2273513749920785766.post-5617968823288481812011-05-21T05:11:00.000-07:002011-05-21T05:14:33.331-07:00Hearts and Diamonds<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKRejCAAl0MJLHDbME5KzE4i0dj1GRrDGWL3ijuoYOfmvDWd7D3ufhQkyF-ikg3_bzO4DrKpkaUMvIksTKSAVR8CVRYAviWMm2ZtVxQRWlpmAfGdlh9hKtCmQRAWAucs9Wy1a7fXi8BwXV/s1600/heartblanket.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKRejCAAl0MJLHDbME5KzE4i0dj1GRrDGWL3ijuoYOfmvDWd7D3ufhQkyF-ikg3_bzO4DrKpkaUMvIksTKSAVR8CVRYAviWMm2ZtVxQRWlpmAfGdlh9hKtCmQRAWAucs9Wy1a7fXi8BwXV/s320/heartblanket.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>I saw this free sheet at the local Meijer store. It's directions to make a beautiful crocheted afghan, with a hearts and diamonds in the pattern. I actually rolled passed it quite a few times. I'm a crochet amateur my grandma showed me a few things when I was about 8 including how to make a pot holder, that's about it. So then I decided to just grab the sheet of instructions one day, because heck, it was free, and I might actually try it sometime. For a few months it just sat on my desk, then I made my son a tie fleece blanket for Christmas, and I figured "what the heck, I'm gonna make it!". So I went to the library and got a couple of books on crochet, because this pattern had stitches in it that I had never heard of, and I bought some yarn. My daughter's favorite color is blue, so I made it blue on blue for her for Christmas. I started in Sepetember. I made one panel, and the second panel...and then I got really busy w/ Christmas shopping and kids activites, this and that...everything kept coming up and it seemed like I rarely had time to work on it. Christmas came and it was not done, just two panels and the border on one. I told my daughter it was for her and she graciously said it was ok, she would wait. So I kept working on it. In March, I got all four panels done, and started comparing them to the original two and there was one that was too long. I couldn't just pull it out, cause that would leave half a heart. So I made another panel, which also wasn't the same size...I pulled it all out and re did it, still wasn't right. I was using the same yarn, the same hook...I still have no idea why it wouldn't work. SO I just gave up, pulled out enough to make it even w/ the rest, which DID leave half a heart...but my daughter is 7 and has yet to even notice. It turned out very nice, not sure I would make it again, but I learned a lot of new things about crochet so it was worth it. She loves it, and that's all that really matters. Oh yeah, I finished at the end of April... when I started in September, my husband commented, "you won't be done by Christmas...I bet you won't finish til May". There was no way I was gonna let him be right, so I had to finish before May.MommyOntheEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04724609195596015786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2273513749920785766.post-86293563878382504702011-05-19T06:52:00.000-07:002011-05-19T07:08:20.284-07:00Cthulhu masks anyone?OK so this blog is WAY out of chronological order, but I'm trying. Anyway, my oldest son saw a Cthulhu mask on the internet and wanted one. Well the person selling it wanted $60 + shipping...uh...NO! BUT I told him, if you can find me a pattern I can make one. So he did, and I did...it wasn't very hard, but the original pattern comes out quite large, so in subsequent attempts I made it smaller, because...as soon as one kid had one...they all wanted one, all different colors of course:<br />
<br />

Except my middle son, who found a whole different completely more complicated project for me. More to come on that one, I have to wait for him to bring it back from his dad's so I can take pics of it. Let's just say...it wasn't easy.<br />

Recently there was a 'spring sewing swap' so I signed up. It took me four patterns all pieced together, and modified to come up w/ the now "Original" outfit, and I really enjoyed the challenge. Here's the outfit that I made, I actually made two, because I loved the fabric so much I wanted to keep one. I'm so glad I did because it turned out better than I'd even hoped, I'm so excited!:<br />

And I was lucky enough to receive my swap from my swap partner today, and it is amazing! It must have taken a lot of work, I only wish my pics were better so you could really see the amazing details:<br />

There's beautiful embroidery all over the dress, that's an ADORABLE green sweater w/ sequins on it. The petticoat is amazing, AND a hand beaded necklace w/ a crocheted closure, simply amazing. I'm so thrilled! My daughter insisted that we try it on her doll first, messy hair and all. So much fun, can't wait for the next sewing swap!MommyOntheEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04724609195596015786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2273513749920785766.post-75012685235518562222011-05-18T06:57:00.000-07:002011-05-18T07:05:13.941-07:00My first endeavorI never took Home Ec. in high school, I learned to sew from my mother. She never taught me a ton of stuff, but I knew the basics, and I love to read, so if I don't know...I look it up. Along w/ the doll my daughter wanted for her birthday, she asked for a Pom Pom outfit that matches the one that she competes in. Well obviously I couldn't find one that was already made that matches so that meant I had to make one. So I set off looking for a pattern. I finally found one that was CLOSE but not quite what hers looked like, so I had to modify the pattern. The one I found was the <a href="http://www.dollsclothes-emilyrose.com/Sunshine-Cheerleader-18-Inch-Doll-Clothe-Pattern-p/insp002.htm">Emily Rose Sunshine Cheerleader</a> pattern. It's pretty close. <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-XQetcYudphVZHBYwCWXYu-9JC6kwy6DKE44Y3tgh0Y4z8xRJEYIxDCF5I2JucEby07Ivt7118VtUrvb80sjAP9687m0tAb1hp740rJJeBM89Yr2zcCP3c33pll3wwSvdRiH-aoZCVJZc/s1600/TriState3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-XQetcYudphVZHBYwCWXYu-9JC6kwy6DKE44Y3tgh0Y4z8xRJEYIxDCF5I2JucEby07Ivt7118VtUrvb80sjAP9687m0tAb1hp740rJJeBM89Yr2zcCP3c33pll3wwSvdRiH-aoZCVJZc/s320/TriState3.JPG" width="175" /></a><br />

I know it doesn't look like it, but her uniform is purple. So I worked at it, and I tried to come up w/ the right pattern. I figured it was a bit over my head, so I asked my Aunt to give it a whirl. She graciously did, and hers was good, but not good enough in my mind, I wanted it to be EXACT. So I decided to do it myself. I'd never done pleats in my life, and it took me a while to figure out how to get the shirt to say "Dazzlers" w/o the use of embroidery, but I got it. The hardest part was the pleats, the neckline, and the Poms. I ordered white tennis shoes and socks from <a href="http://www.dollclothesstore.com/">The Dollclothes Store.com</a> so they would look like my daughter's. I even made the matching hair bow like her team wears for competition. I never thought I could make something like this, but it was a great challenge and I had fun doing it. Learned a LOT and it turned out great and my daughter loved it. Here's the finished project:<br />

That was my first foray into dolly couture...and it continues...another day another pattern.<br />
So much more to come, I'm just getting started stay tuned :DMommyOntheEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04724609195596015786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2273513749920785766.post-45211523829943671212011-05-18T06:38:00.000-07:002011-05-18T06:38:25.768-07:00Welcome!In the beginning...<br />
I've decided to start a blog about all my doll adventures and craft stuff that I make. My daughter for her 7th birthday asked for an American Girl doll, so I obliged. I also tossed myself into a world I didn't know existed. The doll collector world. It's been interesting, inspiring, and sometimes a bit odd...but it is what it is. I started off just doing a little research on the dolls and what makes them worth more than the 18" dolls at Target or Walmart. Then I got sucked in.<br />
<br />
I didn't have tons of money to buy her a bunch of AG doll clothes for her doll, so my Mother and I started sewing for her doll. This prompted me to buy a couple used ones off ebay so we could have clothes "models". It's so much fun to sew and make things for the dolls, they never complain LOL, about the color, the fit, how many times they have to try it on...etc.<br />
<br />
This is the beginning...who knows where it will end. MommyOntheEdgehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04724609195596015786noreply@blogger.com0
